Mobility Aids
Crutches
Forearm crutches are easier on the joints because they use the larger muscles of the shoulders and upper arms.
Canes
Using a cane is pretty tough on my wrist, so it’s important that I use good technique, and not use it too often. I tend to switch up what types of aids I use so I don’t over-strain any given joint.
Walkers
I know everyone wants a walker with wheels, but Mr. Dr. Hypermobile Physicist, who is a nurse, says that the ones without wheels are safest because they are the most stable. As with all the other mobility products, please consult your medical care providers, like a physical therapist, to find the right aids and be taught proper techniques for use. The one with a seat and storage is very convenient though.
Accessories
These small wheelchair and walker accessories made my life a lot easier when I was in a wheelchair after knee surgery. The cup holder attachment can make it hard to get through doorways, but it’s easy to take on and off. The cushion and wheelchair gloves are a must for added comfort, and there are various organizers and backpacks to make carrying your stuff around without dropping things a lot easier.

Comfort Items
I am building an army of Squishmallows in all shapes and sizes. I tuck them in around me when I sleep, and under my arms on the couch to support my shoulders, or under my knees for back support. A super-soft throw blanket is a must at all times as well.
I bought this rotating side table when I had my surgery, and I still use it constantly even now that I’m (mostly) fully mobile. I also have these TV trays stashed all around the house to make it easier to eat, work, and read in beds and on couches.
